Q&A with Juliet Parry
As Head of Research at Kingston University, Juliet Parry plays a key role in enabling the university to maintain a robust research environment that meets growing compliance expectations. While export control isn’t the most high-profile aspect of research management, it’s a critical one – especially after a recent audit raised the stakes for institutional compliance.
With a need to maintain high standards without increasing administrative burden, Kingston University turned to Infonetica to help streamline the process by implementing our Export Controls solution.
We caught up with Juliet to find out more about their journey, from initial challenges to the benefits of implementation, and how the Export Controls solution fits seamlessly within their broader research ecosystem.
Q: Can you describe some of the challenges you had before implementing our Export Controls Solution? What prompted you to look for an Export Controls solution?
Juliet:
"Export control is a relatively low-level activity for us, but one we still need to get right – especially following a recent audit that raised the bar. We needed a way to ensure compliance without overloading our limited resources. Through configuration, we were able to ensure the process stayed simple and was in plain English, so that even colleagues who rarely engage with it could understand what to do without needing detailed legal knowledge."
Q: Why did you decide to go with the Infonetica solution?
Juliet:
“There were a number of reasons for choosing Infonetica. It was the right solution at the right time, aligning perfectly with the actions required from our audit. We also have an existing partnership with Infonetica through their ethics software, and since it’s on the same platform, both we and our researchers are already familiar with it, ensuring continuity and ease of use. This helps us manage what is a relatively low-level activity without it consuming too much resource.”
Q: How have you found the implementation experience?
Juliet:
"The implementation experience was brilliant. The team were incredibly responsive – even when we changed our minds or needed to revisit decisions, they were always happy to help. They went above and beyond, doing things that other vendors might expect us to do ourselves. We've built a really strong relationship with the team, and that's been a real benefit to us."
