What is Research Administrator Day?

Research Administrator Day is a chance to shine a spotlight on the invaluable role research administrators play in the research community.

These professionals work diligently behind the scenes to keep research moving forward and ensuring that institutions achieve their goals. As the backbone of research success, they manage everything from helping researchers secure grants to navigating complex regulations. They clear the path for researchers to focus on advancing knowledge and innovation.

To celebrate, we invited our customers to share shoutouts recognising the efforts of their research administrator colleagues. Take a look at their nominations below.

UCL's Research Ethics Service Team has continued to receive excellent feedback during a period of ambitious change. As a team, they facilitate complex research, advise researchers and our Local Research Ethics Committees, and have supported applicants and reviewers in the transition to Ethics RM. All this whilst also supporting the development of our policy and processes underpinning our work. We truly appreciate all your dedication and hard work.

Erin Archer, Research Ethics Administrator at University

Erin has quickly become an invaluable member of the team in her role as Ethics Administrator. Her exceptional work ethic and professionalism have enabled her to build strong relationships with our users, reviewers and Committee Chairs in a remarkably short time. Erin’s keen attention to detail and impressive problem-solving skills have been instrumental in supporting our transition to the new ethics online system over the past year. Her contributions have made a significant and lasting impact.

Aden Williams and Cassey Toi, Research Ethics Administrators at Stellenbosch University

A big thank you to Aden for his outstanding contributions to our Infonetica journey. Although he is no longer at SU, his support was key in recommending Infonetica as our RIMS of choice. He played a vital role in troubleshooting and problem-solving, and his input has had a lasting impact.
Cassey has also been exceptional, her administrative support, especially during peak periods, has made a real difference in keeping things running smoothly. Their efforts have truly helped streamline our processes, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to recognise their contributions.

Behind every seamless research process is a Research Systems Manager who truly understands their stakeholders, isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo, and systematically addresses issues while always seeking new opportunities.
Dace exemplifies all of this and more. She works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our systems are the best they can be. Her dedication, attention to detail, and genuine commitment to listening and understanding users set her apart.

Chris Murphy, Animal Ethics & Biosafety Administrator at Macquarie University

I’d like to recognise Chris Murphy for the outstanding contribution he makes to the management of our online system and support he provides to the the research community. Chris manages applications supporting two different committees, the Animal Ethics and Biosafety Committees. This is a complex and demanding task that he handles with professionalism, efficiency, and a consistently positive attitude.
Chris has the ability to juggle competing priorities, maintain clear communication, and provide tailored support to each group. He is not only a reliable and knowledgeable administrator, but also a calm and encouraging presence who helps make the process smoother for everyone involved. Importantly, Chris took on this extra workload whilst we were without an administrator for over five months, stepping up without hesitation and ensuring continuity and support during a challenging period.
Thank you, Chris, for your dedication, adaptability, and the steady support you provide behind the scenes. Your work is deeply appreciated and deserves to be celebrated.
